Surprise!

I'm baaaaack!

I know, I know! I've been gone for a while...but for good reason...I promise. You see, I've been working on a little project, and I didn't really want to return until I knew I could share the project with you. It's been eating me up inside not to be in touch with the blogosphere...but I have returned...for good! So the news you ask?

Drum roll please..........................................

WE ARE EXPECTING A BABY!

Yes, you read that right! The Big Stink and Nae-Nae have a bun in the oven (well, it's in my oven but he put it there)! The mini-stink is due to arrive in this world sometime around 9/20/10.

I am officially out of my 1st trimester, and I had a 2nd ultrasound today that showed everything was going well and progressing as it should be. So I felt comfortable in finally sharing the news today. Yippee! Of course, we've already spilled the beans to those closest to us...but now it's time for the rest of our community to know.

The First Trimester
I knew I was pregnant almost instantly. I just had this feeling...I don't know what it was, but I just knew. I spent much of my time the first week back to work in January 2010 researching the signs of pregnancy, trying to figure out when I could take a pregnancy test, and determining if the last menstrual cycle, possible dates of conception and our sex life added up. It added up...no ifs, ands, or buts! I didn't let Naeners know I thought I was pregnant because if I wasn't, I knew he would be disappointed. I figured it was a secret best kept to myself until I could know for certain.

I had Friday, January 8th off from work, so I ran to the grocery and purchased two different types of pregnancy tests. I knew that it may come up negative because everything I was reading on the internet said it may not show positive until the 11th. I was willing to give a whirl anyways! I peed on test #1 and test #2, and even though it was a little faint, each one had 2 lines saying that it was a BIG FAT POSITIVE. Holy shit! I ran around the house like a little girl! I am not sure what I was doing...but I was alone, Naeners was at work, and I couldn't share the news with anyone else.

Soooo....after I ran around in circles, I hopped in my car and ran into Barnes and Noble. I got the classic What to Expect When You're Expecting (for me) and The Expectant Father (for Nae-nae). It seemed like forever waiting for Naeners to get home. When he finally got home, I told him that I got him a present. He opened the Barnes & Noble's bag and saw the two books. He was bit perplexed. I showed him the pee sticks. He got it. He then ran around in circles for about 10 minutes in disbelief. Needless to say, we were both excited and pleasantly surprised that it all happened so quickly (we really hadn't been trying all that long---sorry if this is TMI).

Most of my symptoms have been text book. I had nausea (also known as morning sickness) from week 5 to almost week 12. Food grossed me out. Ack! Meat was the worst. I was cooking ground beef for spaghetti sauce one evening and almost hurled...2 times. I didn't eat spaghetti that night. Chicken was a big turn off, too. I thought I was never going to enjoy food again. I stood in the kitchen one night and started crying, "I am never going to be able to eat again. I hate food." It was hormonal...but I did have feelings of hopelessness about food. Not anymore! I am now feeling much better when it comes to eating...thank goodness!

I have been sluggish and tired and can sleep like a baby. There were some days in the beginning that I spent  hours taking a nap and had no problem going to sleep at night. It was awesome. I am not sleeping as much these days!

The boobies grew quite rapidly...and OUCH...they hurt! (Again, sorry for the TMI).

I got a bad cold in the first trimester...just at 11 weeks. Apparently, a pregnant woman is more susceptible to sinus problems. Who knew? I sure didn't!

Oh! And the HORMONES! Poor Naeners is all I can say! It's like I've lost all filters, self-control, and patience. As my BroWife told me, I've had to do some "damage control" after the fact. Those crazy hormones.

Of all the things that have changed with my body and my psyche, I feel like I've handled most of it with open arms. Everything was and still is a sign that things are progressing along...and that makes me feel good!

Our first OB appointment was on February 18th, and we had our first ultrasound. I was 9 weeks and 3 days along.

1st Ultrasoud...9 weeks 3 days! We were happy to see that the baby had all the usual body parts.
Heart Beat: 171 BPM
Crown to Rump Length (CRL): measured 9w5d

I didn't know that a baby no bigger than the size of a grape a grape could move around so much. We have a wiggle worm on our hands! The little booger was swimming from side to side in my belly (well, uterus to be anatomically correct)! It was amazing! We fell in love instantly!

Second Trimester
I am a bit confused about when my 2nd trimester begins. I have read in various sources at 12wks, 13wks, or 14wks. I was 13 weeks on this past Monday (3/15/10), so I am choosing it to be the first day of my 2nd trimester. Yeah!

Here is the belly shot from the 13th week:
Can you see the baby bump? I see it.
Or is that my leftover beer gut from my drankin' dayz?
(I know...not the best backgroud...the photos from here on out will be taken in the future nursery...you will see my baby bump progress as the nursery does, too).

I had some genetic testing completed today and got another series of ultrasound photos. Again, the baby was moving all around and didn't seem to want to cooperate. The little thing was active at first and then decided it was nap time. I was on the table for about 40 minutes as the OB pressed and poked on my belly to get the angles he needed to get the measurements. It was awesome getting to see my baby for that long, but I must say I was happy when it was over because the pressing on my belly hurt. So far, everything seems to be normal, but we won't know for sure until the lab results get back.

The little booger could move his arms and legs. I saw the heartbeat, again! It is amazing to see the growth from week 9 to week 13...so rapid!

Ultrasound pictures from today (13weeks 2 days):
I fell in love with the little face! That's my baby!

As you can see on the bottom left corner, my baby is measuring a little bigger. This makes me happy.

That is all I got for now...pretty big stuff, though! Now that I have shared, I do not plan on being away from the blog world so much!

Good night to all!
